Creating A Custom Search Engine for Students

If you are starting a research project and would like to control where your students get their resources from then this tool is for you! With just a few simple clicks you can control what websites students use for finding information. This is a safe and effective way to have the information come from reliable and credible websites. Using a custom search engine is a great way to narrow the information by preselecting a few websites for your students to use while still having the practice of using search terms and deciding on what individual search result to use. Follow the steps below to create your own!

Step 1:

Go to the website below
https://cse.google.com/cse/

Step 2:

Click on the Create a custom search engine bar in the upper left hand corner.

Step 3:

Paste the sites you want your students to visit in the sites to search one at a time.

Step 4:

Name the search engine

Step 5:

Click create at the bottom of the page.

Step 6:

Click Public URL and copy and paste the url to send by email to your kids or post to your google classroom
